With one week to go my buddies decided to through me a bachelor party. It wasn't quite the chill relaxed affair that I asked for but I think everyone there really needed to let go and blow off steam.
Needless to say being the guest of honor I threw up many times. I spent most of Saturday sleeping on a immaculately clean bathroom floor as my body disgorged every thing that has ever been in my stomach. This includes a boot or two that I think I accidently swallowed as a young child.
Even now, two days later, my body is still not very happy. I ache and hurt but I can eat and drink and the thought of alcohol no longer makes me want to throw up. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to watch TV when thinking about drinking makes you want to throw up...
Well, everyone who partied in my name on friday night, thanks for the lack of memories... I'm sure it was fun!
As some of you know I've changed jobs. Thus making this page 100% out of date rather then just 70% out of date.
For those of you in the know there is much that is not news to you in the this post but for those not here goes:
Tonya and I are married and have been for just about 8 months. For those that say the first year is the hardest, I can only say then this will be one of the easiest marriages in history. At least for me, maybe it has been really hard for her but not for me.
Tonya and I no longer live with Ken. We now live in a nondescript house in Sunnyhell right next to the baby hell mouth under the elementary school. We have a tiny garage that holds both street bikes, and out back is a patio that holds my dirtbike collection. This house has an office, and junk room and our bed room. There is also a living room/dinning room and a kitchen.
We also no longer have the Z3. Tonya was very tired of such a small car and wanted something with four doors and a trunk. We sold the Z3 to person off of Craig's list and leased a BMW 330i with the performance package. At the same time I got rid of my Yamaha YZ250F and got a KTM 525EXC imported from Europe so that it is street legal.
Just over 2 weeks ago I started a new job at Intel. I left Network Appliance Inc., a place where I had worked for 6+ years. I am now back working for the company I worked for while I was in high-school. One of the big differences between Intel and Netapp is that I'm not supposed to talk about what I do at Intel. It is kind of like working for fight club.
Well, 2 weeks and 1 day left. I just sent in my food count and seating arrangements, so if any of you forgot to send in your RSVP, too bad! My dress is in, I had my fitting on Friday. I pick it up next Saturday. Hotel rooms have been confirmed. Table decorations are completed. My only real task left is to pay everyone :-( I feel like I should be relaxing....its all done. But I keep going over everything in my head because I'm afraid I'm forgetting something.
Having been inspired by Kendall Anderson I have decided to start shooting industrial and former industrial sites. My first choice didn't wind up being quite as impressive as anything Kendall has photographed. However, there just aren't that many decommissioned industrial sites around the San Francisco Bay Area. I decided to start with the cement reprocessing plant on top of the capped off landfill near my soon to be old office at Network Appliance Inc.. For almost 6 years I have wondered exactly what I would find up there. You can occasionally see large hauling trucks up there and a front loader driving around. I also did it to get some photos of the area around NetApp. I knew I couldn't get onto the roof of NetApp very easily so I choose the dump as a raised shooting point.
The images in my gallery are generally unprocessed. The images in flickr have been processed. The flickr photset of the Reprocessing station is here. I also shot into the garbage transfer station next to the dump. Because I knew I wasn't supposed to be where I was I didn't get a very good angle on the transfer station. I didn't really want to get caught. That is also why these shots are all handheld. If I had just chilled I really wanted to stop all my shots down and get better color and more depth of field. I may go back and do just that. The other problem I had was the sun. Even with the hood on my 24-70 I was still getting flare from the sun.
While I was there I shot some landscape shots that I stitched together to form wide panoramic arcs. The day was much less clear then the day before when I planned my activities. I was kind of bummed about that. The pictures came out hazier then I would have liked. It would have helped if I moved from a UV filter to a polarizer but I was too busy worrying about getting caught.
