Man Plows Pickup Through Motorcycles, Killing 2
"He pulled up behind the five motorcycles, hit the gas, and plowed right through them," said Deputy Police Chief David Humphreys.
Crazy people suck... Road rage sucks. I hope this asshole rots in jail forever. I hope he gets ass raped by very large angry men.
Motorcycle deaths rise after helmet-law repeal
The federal study, however, said the rate of fatalities per motorcycle registration in Kentucky increased 37 percent, faster than the increase in the number of registrations, which was 20 percent. The national fatality rate, based on the number of riders killed per 10,000 registered motorcycles, was 6.3 in 2000, compared with 8.2 in Kentucky.
The study did not include 2001 or 2002, but figures obtained from the traffic safety administration show that Kentucky's motorcycle fatality rate increased to 12.77 in 2001.
INDIANA, WHICH repealed its mandatory helmet law in 1977, had a 2001 fatality rate of 5.89.
As of 2000, 44,003 motorcycles were registered in Kentucky, according to administration data, up from 39,901 in 1998 and 36,603 in 1996. Indiana had 118,000 registered motorcycles in 2000, up from 97,000 in 1996.
I honestly can't believe people don't wear helmets even if the law doesn't require it. Hitting the ground at even 30 can kill your head.
This Huber of the Kentucky Motorcycle Association said helmets "can have good and bad effects."
They can protect in some crashes, he said, but also can inhibit the motorcyclist's vision, impair hearing, and in warm weather produce heat stress. pisses me off the most. My full face helmets (in fact all full face helmets since like 1977) gives you the same peripheral view as with out a helmet. And as far as hearing goes... put a muffler on your harley and you will be able to hear. But hearing doesn't play a big part in motorcycle riding. With or with out a helmet. Going 40 miles an hour the wind noise on most bikes actually causes you hearing to shutdown so you brain doesn't have to work so hard (you block out the loud roaring wind, and for the next hour or so you don't hear so good). As for heat stress, get a vented helmet! Wear sun glasses and ride with the visor up or off. That is just a laim excuse truely laim!

I should be taking delivery on Saturday.
My leg is going to fall off... It turns out I have a few more days of walking left before they amputate to prevent any further damage....
My fibula is basically healed.... My tibia is finally growing back together. There is a solid mass of bone over the injury site and I should be OK to run and jump in a 3 monthes. My Dr. said in 3 months I can run, jump, ski and ride a motorcycle again.
Amusingly this is the first leg check since I did my arm. It seems that all my Xrays are in the same file. Trying to find the xrays from my last visit he stumbled upon the xrays from my arm. He was impressed at the ammount of damage. He also said that I was having a bad year.
IHT: France takes on plague of sexual 'rite'
The phenomenon of gang rape in France has become banal. It occurs - how often is unknown - in the concrete wastelands built as cheap housing for immigrants on the outskirts of France's big cities. Here, according to sociologists and prosecutors, teenage boys, many of them loosely organized into gangs, prey on neighborhood girls.
Many of the boys are raised in closed, traditional families and are hopelessly confused or ignorant about sex; others are simply street toughs. In this world, women enjoy little respect; often girls who appear weak, or who wear tight-fitting clothing or go out unaccompanied by their fathers or brothers are considered fair game.
So now gang rape is a rite of passage... Joy.

Sierra students, professor angry at writer's views on 'hot girls' on campus
A bunch of kids from my graduating class went to seirra, were they all the hot girls? I don't remember. Nicholas Louis says, "NO!" Sierra is not full of hot chicks. It is full of chicks that are fashions slaves but not hot fashion slaves.

Sunday_Mirror.co.uk - BLAINE WARNED: SEX WILL KILL YOU
HOW HIS BODY HAS BEEN HIT
BREATH: Will smell because of ketone bodies - the body's emergency fuel source - expiring through his lungs.
LIPS: Likely to be cracked because of a lack of B group vitamins.
BONES: Loss of calcium and collagens will make bones more brittle. The inactivity will put him at risk of getting severe osteoporosis later in life.
LIVER: May have shrunk by as much as a quarter because of the loss of proteins and the lack of food passing through his system.
KIDNEYS: Will have wasted and reduced in size. Shouldn't be too damaged - it is possible to survive on one third of one kidney.
MUSCLES: Wastage will be high as the body starves them of proteins to boost his immune system. and his arms, legs and chest will be most affected. It will be difficult for him to walk or stand.
BRAIN: Likely to have swollen by up to six per cent as salt is pulled elsewhere. Extra pressure may cause him delusions and disorientation.
EYES: Will have blurred vision through low blood pressure and the swelling of his brain may have put stress on optic nerves.
HEART: Will have shrunk by five-10 per cent as the body begins to "eat" itself to hunt for vital proteins. Irregular heartbeat too.
STOMACH: Will have shrunk, and he'll feel full on much less food more quickly. But it is elastic and should stretch again.
INTESTINES: No digestive juices will have been produced so enzymes in gut wall will have disappeared. Diarrhoea and food poisoning are likely.
44 Days for publicity... Well, at least it is destroying his body. Maybe that means he will preform less from now on.
My brother is now 24... Fuck, he is old! Damn, that makes me really old!
Well, happy birthday Christopher Robert...
My arm is getting better.... The Dr. was pleased with my range of motion in both my hand and my wrist. I have about 3/4 of my range of motion back in my wrist and 95% in my hand.
There isn't much news. I was just refered to physical therapy. Now I need to find a hand thearapist in the area that takes my insurance.
I'm still having trouble with my insurance with my stay in the hospital in Nevada. I'm ready to switch to a different insurance plan.

NBC5.com - News - Ohio Woman Dies After Finishing Chicago Marathon
Luke Roach, 22, of Seattle, died after collapsing near the finish line during the 2001 Chicago Marathon. A medical examiner's office study completed three months after Roach's collapse confirmed that his temperature soared to 107 degrees while he was running and he died of heat stroke.
In the 2000 race, Danny Towns, 45, of Edmond, Okla., collapsed and later died of coronary arteriosclerosis, a hardening of the heart arteries. In 1998, Kelly Barrett, 43, of Littleton, Colo., died three days after a cardiac arrest in the marathon medical tent. Her death was attributed to low sodium levels, apparently from drinking too much water while running.
The Chicago Marathon began in 1977 and currently allows a maximum of 40,000 participants, according to the official Web site. More than 1 million spectators were expected to attend the 2003 event.

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Vatican: condoms don't stop Aids
The Catholic Church is telling people in countries stricken by Aids not to use condoms because they have tiny holes in them through which the HIV virus can pass - potentially exposing thousands of people to risk.
I don't even know where to start. Reading things like this makes me sad I was ever baptised and glad I never got confirmed.
The amazing thing is, they don't seem to be telling people to abstain, just not to use condoms. I'm livid, I don't know what to say...

News Sentinel | 09/27/2003 | Man sentenced for firing at motorcyclists
According to a probable cause affidavit, four men were riding their motorcycles westbound on Washington when a light-colored car approached them at a high rate of speed. Two of the bikers pulled off to allow the car to pass, but before the other two could follow suit, Daniels drove through the middle of the group, nearly hitting one of them.
OK so it doesn't specify and SUV but you know he was driving an SUV!
Three of the four motorcyclists followed the car to the parking lot of the Fraternal Order of Eagles on Bluffton Road, where they spotted Daniels. The men began arguing, and Daniels pulled the gun and started firing.
Daniels then left the scene, but one of the motorcyclists gave police the license plate number of Daniels' car. Daniels was arrested about two hours later near his home.
"While the argument is made that this is consensual . . . sadism is disrespectful and masochism is self-disrespectful," Hurley said. "To fund something that is degrading or sexually violent can only lead to heartache."

I have a new bike obsession, the Triumph Thruxton 900 in black. I love the classic cafe racer look. It has been a while since anyone had a bike on the market that had these looks and didn't completly suck. The Thruxton isn't going to be amazing in performance but it will be OK and it will look GREAT. It won't be available in the US untill late spring.

Blogger Boobie-Thon for breast cancer
An anonymour reader sez, "October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation one blogger has started the Blogger Boobie-Thon. Throughout October people can submit pictures of their boobs (yes, manly chests are welcome as well), with the more risque photographs being placed on the 'pay per boobie' page that can only be accessed with a donation of $50 or more. Collaborative porn for charity, anyone?"
Today at 2:00pm PDT I was at my hand orthopedic drs office. It was mostly a quick exam but I got to ask a few questions.
First the results of the exam. My hand is recovering nicely. I have quite a bit of scar tissue inside but inside a year it should all have healed away. My elbo is basically back to normal... It has about the same range of motion as the other. My wrist is the only source of concern. It is getting a bit better but not as much as the hand or elbo. It only improved about 5 degrees of mobility in 1 1/2 weeks.
My questions were thus: Is my pinky OK? Yes, but it was badly sprained. I was given new exercises to target my pinky and get it back OK. Can I hurt my hand doing my fist clenching exercises? No, but I can't apply outside forces, those might hurt it. When can I stop wearing the splint? In a month or so. However, if I'm not doing anything that might lead to falling or other arm damaging activities I can skip the splint to allow my wrist to get better.
When will I be OK? (to ride motorcycles, play on the monkey bars with kids) A few monthes. My arm won't feel normal for 6 monthes but I wil be safe to go about my life in a few, when I have full range of motion and no pain.
The Salt Lake Tribune -- Liquor law bites the hand that wrote it
Legislators planning a national conference of state lawmakers from around the nation next year in Salt Lake City want to buck the reputation that it's impossible to get a drink in Utah.
But Monday, in contemplating the details of welcoming attendees with free wine and beer at social events, lawmakers discovered just how restrictive and confusing the very liquor laws they penned can be.
The head scratching began when Sen. Carlene Walker, R-Cottonwood Heights, asked about serving mixed drinks at the 2004 annual meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
"We've had people say can't you get a drink in Utah. We want them to have a good time. We should be sensitive to the fact they might expect liquor," said the Cottonwood Heights Republican.
