Baby Einstein is bad for your kids. So are toddler-oriented DVDs and videogames made by LeapFrog Enterprises, Brainy Baby and Vtech.
At least that's the contention of Jane Healy, an educational psychologist and author of Failure to Connect: How Computers Affect Our Children's Minds and What We Can Do About It. Healy is alarmed by the encroachment of "screen time" of all kinds--videos, games and computers--into the lives of younger and younger children. "Behind the big push to get kids onto computers is this idea that if we don't, they won't become functional members of the 21st century," she says. "That's not only false, it's dangerous."
