Christian right chooses death over sex

Virginity or Death!

What is it with these right-wing Christians? Faced with a choice between sex and death, they choose death every time. No sex ed or contraception for teens, no sex for the unwed, no condoms for gays, no abortion for anyone--even for that poor 13-year-old pregnant girl in a group home in Florida. I would really like to hear the persuasive argument that this middle-schooler with no home and no family would have been better off giving birth against her will, and that the State of Florida, which totally failed to keep her safe, should have been allowed, against its own laws, to compel this child to bear a child. She was too young to have sex, too young to know her own mind about abortion--but not too young to be forced onto the delivery table for one of the most painful experiences human beings endure, in which the risk of death for her was three times as great as in abortion. Ah, Christian compassion! Christian sadism, more likely. It was the courts that showed humanity when they let the girl terminate her pregnancy.

This is an unabashidly leftist view of the HPV vaccine and the fact that the right doesn't want you to have it.

I am a "right-winged christian" and I think the vaccine is a great thing. Kid's will be kid's and have sex whether or not they have the vaccine or not. I do not believe kid's would be more apt to partake in sexual activities due to the fact that they have a lesser chance of getting cervical cancer, which they weren't even aware of. We will not be able to control kid's sexual urges, because they are unmistakenably there. I think if kid's are going to have sex, they need to do it safely. If they don't and catch something, it's going to be a hard road for them. We just need to make sure they are educated. Also I do not appreciate the fact that you stereotype us, "they choose death every time." My whole family are right-winged Christian's and we would much rather kid's practice safe sex than die from cancer when they are older. Yes they are disobeying our father, but doesn't mean they need to die for it. this is it for now i might be back depending on other comments.

C'mon people, this is NOT just about teens sneaking off to rebel against their parents or a religion that they perceive to be too strict. I was a good girl, waited until marriage and was faithful to my husband. Unfortunately, my husband was not faithful and years later I discovered he'd given me the gift of a cancer that could kill me and leave my children without a parent. Luckily, I've always been diligent about PAPs smears and we caught it early enough but as we know, other women are not that fortunate. If there are Christian zealots who want their daughters to die for their mistakes that's one thing, but should they have to die for other people's mistakes as well? If they're honestly worried that the message they've given their children about morals and values is so vague that a vaccine gives their children permission to have sex, they shouldn't tell the kid what the vaccine is for. They're still the parent and kids don't have to give consent for medical care.
