My arm...

OK, so I broke me arm on wednesday, August 27th, 2003. I did it on my motorcycle. Yes, I had a motorcycle accident. I was coming onto the freeway (101S) @ university in palo alto. I was doing about 25 maybe 30, and thought I saw something in the road. There is a wall that runs up to corner, but a curb that runs anouther 200' or so. As I drifted left to avoid the raod debris I saw, I noticed the curb at the last second. As the bike hit it, i dropped off the side. I landed on my arm. I broke the metacarpel behind my pointer finger. I also snapped my radius and ulna. One of them has two brakes. These were open fractures (the bone broke the skin but wasn't sticking out). I also have a bit of roadrash on my knees and right hip. I was treated as a truama case on the abulance and in the stanford ER. Due to several gunshot injuries wednesday night, the ER was under lock down. That made it so that Ken and Amsnda couldn't see me in the ER. I was stuck on a backboard for like 2 hours while I was poked and proded for every possable side effect of an accident. Eventualy me and my bent and broken arm were escorted to an OR and my roommates were sent home for the night. I woke up in a bed surrounded by residents and an attending who were doing rounds and they put my hand in a big foam block that keeps my hand raised above my heart. I spent the next day sleeping eccept for the occasional minstrations from various nursing functionaries. And that was about all I did on thursday. Ken and Amanda came and went which was very nice because I needed a friendly presence. Friday was spent bouncing around trying to get medical insurance crap finished. Stanfords hand specialist wanted to do some surgury on my hand on tuesday. My insurance company wanted a second opinion. The hand specialist that works with my leg Dr. recommended not going the surgury route after taking some xrays. My pointer finger will be a bit shorter then it used to be but it should have full function and range of motion. With surgury the length would be fixed but I would likely loose rang of motion.

FAQs:
1) No, I won't be giving up on motorcycles. I have been riding off and on for 13 years or so and this is the first time I have been seriously injured.

2) yes, I consider that onramp to be poorly designed and poorly marked.

3) yup, I typed this only my left hand.

Gina and I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank God you're left handed.

A) pretty good typing for being one-handed.
B) can you stop indulging your proclivity for masochism in ways that make your friends worry?
C) how's the bike (and which one was it)?
D) I didn't expect you'd stop riding given that your only concession to changing snow sports (given how bad your leg was) was for your mom.

Dude, I appreciate you're taking all the spills I should be taking, but enough is enough, ok? We'd like you to stay out of plaster for a while, so you can fit in our cars and we don't rest drinks on you at parties and so forth.

Actually we like having you around and we'd like you to try maybe epsilon harder to stay around, or at least in one piece, ok? Take care of yourself and get better, cause I wanna ride with you next summer.

Hey, isn't full range of hand motion, like, really important for you?

. . . <pause> . . .

Okay, okay. I'm talking about Soul Calibur II, you perverts!

Seriously, everyone over here at 99 hopes you get better soon.
If you need anything, you have a tribe of folks ready to assist.

You're going to make me have to come back over there, aren't you.

BQ & MJ were over at the house when we found out. That allowed me to confirm a universal human gesture that immediately follows any sentence beginning: "Will just ... ": the head tilts back, the eyes close, teeth clench, all punctuated by a long sigh.

Incidentally... I can't help myself ... you might want to think about a claim/lawsuit for the road conditions. Gah! You're making me crazy!

Sucks for you.
Anyway, here’s a mnemonic device for learning all your carpals (I know you broke your metacarpal, but who cares):

Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can’t Handle or

Scaphoid, Lunate, Triquetrum, Pisiform(the little bone that sticks out below your pinky at the wrist), Trapezium,Trapezoid, Capitate, Hamate.
