enough to be annoying.
Initial Setting: Phone Call... John is in the car driving to a party.
Main Setting: San Francisco Pier 39 - Fishermans Warf
Flash Back setting: Sonoma - main street...
Synopsis:
John and Sharron have not seen each other in 10 years. Sharron
is now married to Ben. Sharron called John up out to the blue
to see how he is doing, they agreed. She was going to be in
San Francisco where John lives. They have a conversation about
life, and towards the end they have a moment. Then she goes
back to Ben, and John goes home alone.
sweater, blue jean, and Dr. Martins.
Sharron is at her house. Her husband Ben is out entertaining clients
for his law firm. She is sitting at her kitchen table in a small
apartment. She is wearing sweats/PJs (some thing cute but not
flattering).>

His side: Nine Inch Nail - Pretty Hate Machine - Kinda I Want To
Sharron: Hi, is this John? It's me Sharron.
John: ???
Sharron: I hope you don't mind me calling, I called you mom and got
your phone number from her. I've been thinking about you a
lot recently and really missed talking to you.
John: Hi. wow. It's been a long time. What have you been up to?
Sharron: Well I left home and moved to Long Beach to go to CSU Long
Beach with my then boyfriend. Now I'm back living in Sonoma
finishing school. How about you?
John: Well let's see. I went to UC Berkeley so as to not be too far
from my parents. This way they could see me on weekends but not
bother me too often. My dad wanted me to go to Sonoma State but
I decided to get out while the getting was good. I started
working for a Dot Com but that didn't work out. Now, I teach
elementary school in San Francisco.
Sharron: Wow... You've been busy.
John: I actually mode it out the dot com implosion. I cashed out just
as things started to crash.
John: So do you ever make it down to the city.
Sharron: Sometimes my husband Ben and I go to the city. But its kind
of expensive and we can't really afford much right now.
John: Husband... Interesting...
Sharron: Oh yeah... I got married a few years ago...
John and Sharron are walking along a main street in Sonoma. John is
carrying a gift box from Sharron at least by the tag. Music playing in
the background: Portishead - Dummy - Sour Times (interrupted by country
every few blocks bleeding out stores, bars and restaurants.)

Sharron: The food was really good. I enjoyed it.
John: Yeah... I like that place. It's one of my score places.
Sharron: Score places?
John: Places I take women when I want to score. (Sharron raises an
eyebrow) Well, at least the ones that aren't married. (John
winks back at her.)
Sharron: Do you ever miss me? I still think about you and I have
dreams about you.
John: What do you mean?
Sharron: Well do you ever think about us? Do you ever regret the way
things turned out?
John: Yeah, well, if you recall it wasn't like I voluntarily dumped
you or anything. Your step father had a large hand it. He made
it clear to me, that when I turned 18, we were over.
Sharron: That isn't an answer, you're avoiding the question...
John: Well, I'm not sure what to say, what would, uhm, Ben say? I
can't think of a way to answer this that is safe.
Sharron: I need to know, how do you feel.
John: I never stopped loving you. We never got to finish what we
had. It was taken from us before we were finished. I don't know
that we will ever get to finish what we had. You've got Ben, who
loves you and I have a, well I have my life. And I think this is
where we must part again....
(They come to the end of fishermans warf, John goes one way, Sharron
goes the other.)
Hey you.
I realized as I was making page thumbnails for this, that if I break up the Sonoma flashback and incorporate it by bits into the Fisherman's Wharf part, I can get some really nice visual parallels. Think about those parts of Watchmen where the kid is reading the pirate comic, and the pictures there jive well with the conversation going on around him. If I can get an effect that good, I'll die happy.
Anyway, I'll post my thumbnails on my blog soon and let you judge.
Posted by: metamanda at July 22, 2003 1:55 PMIt was suggested I might want to make the dialog in Sonoma a little more detailed.
What do you think? Or do you want to leave it as is?

Sharron: What do you mean?
John: You know I turn 18 this weekend... Your stepfather told me that
after I turned 18 that was it.
Sharron: I don't understand...
John: I'm not allowed to see you or talk to you, how
can we still be going out? Are we going out if we are not allowed to
see eachother or talk?
Sharron: I guess not. But I love you. I
don't want this two be over.
